Winter Hill Series Race 5: Craig Yr Allt

A great turn out of runners enjoyed views out over Cardiff in fast conditions at Craig Yr Allt this weekend. The times were fast and the scores for the front runners reflect that.

In the women's race Katie Ironside (MDC) won by a minute and left series leader Emma McWilliams and second placer Nikki Childs (both Mynydd Du) battling with each other further down the field. Katie's 1 race behind Emma and Nikki in the scoring so the Mynydd Du runners will need to work very hard to stop her from overtaking them at the next race. Both Emma (V40) and Nikki (V60) are looking good for their category wins. In the V50 category Daniella Gormley (Pont-Y-Pwl) made her position at the top of the leaderboard even stronger.

The M/Open race went according to the script, Wyndham Turner (Mynydd Du) finished within 30secs of the race record to beat Josh Tremblay and Tomas Black (both MDC). This was Wyndham's highest score of the season so there's no sign of him backing off and letting anyone else have a chance! Tomas strengthened his position at the top of the U23 leaderboard with his run. In the series overall, Tom Turner (Mynydd Du) is the closest man to his little brother but James Blore (Chepstow) is extremely close behind; expect a great battle between those two in the coming races.

In the V40 category Ben Lowe (Stroud) has hit 5 races but is being pursued hard by Andrew May (Brecon) who's only got 4 so far. It's a similar story in the V50s where Matthew Lawson (Chepstow) leads Andrew Tyler (Hereford). The usual suspects Simon Darke (MDC), Don Powell (Basingstoke) and Gary Gunner (Croft Ambrey) lead in V60, V70 and V75 respectively.
